Starting at university can sometimes be a daunting prospect – many of your high school pals may be off studying somewhere else and you’re in a very new, unknown environment.

But as the great Albert Einstein once said, “In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity”, and uni is also a great opportunity to develop new friendships and be part of an exciting new community.

One easy way to do exactly that is joining a social sports team and University of Western Australia’s social sports program has just launched, with over 15 to choose from including 5-a-side-soccer, ultimate frisbee, netball, basketball, volleyball, touch rugby, badminton and dodgeball.

It’s a great opportunity to hang out with your current friends, colleagues and classmates, along with meeting new people and getting outside and active each week.

Games are held in the evening at both UWA Perth campus and UWA Sports Park in Mt Claremont, and participants can register as a team directly or through Just Play, which collects expressions of interest from players who are interested in joining a social sport competition and matches you up with other players.

UWA’s Social Sports competitions are open to everyone – you don’t even have to be a UWA Student to get involved – get more info and sign up as a team or individual via the UWA Website.
