Outrage: Recent “Australia’s Best Beaches” List Only Has One WA Beach In The Top Ten!?
From the sweet, sweet highs to the crushing lows: after last year’s heady success of Misery Beach being crowned the best beach in Australia (read our delighted write up here), we were positively outraged – nay, incensed – to read this year’s ranking.
Rank, indeed! As we read down the list, were our eyes deceiving us? Could this really be true?
Sixth!
In Tourism Australia’s Best Australian Beach award for 2023, only one Western Australian beach has cracked the top ten – with the spectacular Hamelin Bay nabbing the number six spot (read our deep dive, pardon the pun, of everything you need to know about Hamelin Bay by clicking here).

Taking out the top spot was Stokes Bay, located in South Australia on the north coast of Kangaroo Island.
Also beating out Hamelin Bay in the top five were Boomerang Beach in New South Wales’ Mid North Coast, Rainbow Beach in Queensland’s Cooloola Coast, Apollo Bay on Victoria’s Great Ocean Road, and Adventure Bay on Tasmania’s Bruny Island.
Sure. These are great beaches! Stunning, even. Certainly amongst the best in the world.
But to only have one WA beach in the top ten? Criminal, we say!
