The Perth International Jazz Festival is back this November for a very special 10th anniversary edition!

Over 10 fun-filled days this November there’ll be international stars, Australian artists, jazz films and more showcased across Perth and the south west.

The Perth International Jazz Festival aims to popularise jazz music in the community by providing influential music from talented artists and creating exceptional programs, with a mission to become nationally and internationally acclaimed as one of the world’s most iconic jazz festivals.

Some of this year’s returning artists include Troy Roberts, Vanessa Perica, Sam Anning, Tal Cohen, Mat Jodrell, Carl Mackey, Tim Jago and Jordan Murray, while the likes of Aura (Melbourne), Brekky Boy (Sydney), Sophie Min (Brisbane), Transients: Wilson/Anning/Keller (Melbourne), Heinrich Von Kalnein (Germany), Kari Ikonen (Finland) and more will be making their Perth debuts.

Among an array of eclectic events taking place in exciting spaces, a few highlights include:

Jazz In The City @ Forrest Place (November 5)

From midday until 5.45pm head to Forrest Place in the heart of the CBD for an afternoon of free jazz, performed by some of the State’s finest musicians. The open air stage is the perfect spot to showcase Perth’s performing arts institutions, with WAYJO, WAAPA and some international guests stopping by for some sultry afternoon sounds.

Julien Wilson @ Goodwill Club (November 5)

Jumpin’ @ The Rechabite (November 4)

Join ANJO with Lucy Iffla in travelling back to 1920s New York when jazz was all the rage and swing dancing was the only way to properly let loose! Aura @ Goodwill Club (November 6)

A quartet of four young musicians (each an emerging name in Australian Jazz and Improvised Music), ‘Aura’ present their debut recording as an ensemble! Paying homage to the great chord-less jazz quartets of Ornette Coleman and Sonny Rollins, while drawing on contemporary Australian artists like Andrea Keller, The Necks and the Australian Art Orchestra, this harmonious approach in combination with the individual prowess of each artist presents a definite aura of magic from this youthful band. Closing out the fest will be Jazz In The Garden on Sunday 13 November, taking over Aravina Estate hosting an exclusive afternoon of food, wine and of course, world class jazz, headlined by Michelle Nicolle.
