Often considered the cultural hub of Western Australia, Fremantle will once again turn it on in the depths of winter with the return of Fremantle Festival: 10 Nights in Port.

Enlivening the city and surrounds with soul-warming wonders from August 10-20, this year’s program is as magical as ever, featuring mesmerising fire sculptures, thought-provoking film, captivating live performances and more.

Location is everything, and Fremantle Festival will once again bring to life Fremantle’s hidden corners with ceremony and spectacle that dares you to try and stay in hibernation this winter.

Community and cultural exchange will be at the forefront across an array of spectacular events, including:

BoodjAR, August 10-20

An exciting collaboration between Aboriginal artists and AR developers, BoodjAR harnesses new technology to showcase ancient culture around familiar corners of Walyalup, with new artworks by Sharyn Egan, Yabini Kickett, Harley Richards and more.

Walyalup Waters, August 11-20

PS Arts Space will be the home of a deep dive into our coastal connections through visual arts installations from the likes of Erin Coates, Ross Potter, Anna Nazzari, Amok Island, Cassie Lynch and more.

You’re (Not) Wanjoo, August 11-20

Lead by local artists Cole Baxter and Ilona McGuire, this free exhibition takes a look back at Fremantle’s storied history of resistance, activism and change-making for a better future, spotlighting the past protests that have shaped Fremantle over history.

Crackle: Fire & Feast, August 12

Warm up in Walyalup Koort to celebrate the beginning of Djilba (one of the six Noongar Seasons, when we transition from cold, clear days into warmer, rainy windy days), with a sublime fire feast and fire sculptures.

Hidden Treasures, August 10 & 17

If soul-warming feasts weren’t enough, perhaps the return of heartwarming sounds of local original contemporary music will with the return of Hidden Treasures.
