From cosy cabins to Yallingup mansions: Five of our fave new stays we featured in 2024
We’re not sure if its recency bias or reality, but 2024 felt particularly heccas, and we’ve lost count of the times we got lost daydreaming about a Western Australian getaway in the midst of the chaos.
And while it doesn’t help that part of out entire business is showcasing and sharing great stays around the state, it’s given us plenty of inspo for when we do find a little bit of time to get away from it all.
The Airbnb/tiny cabin explosion of COVID times feels like it has chilled out a little bit, but some awesome new destinations still popped up over the course of the year – here’s five of our faves:
The Nautilus, Yallingup
The Nautilus Yallingup launched at the start of the year, owned by WA surf royalty Taj Burrows and the homebase for none other Nicolas Cage when he was in town to shoot that movie. The modern, architecturally-design house offers panoramic views of the wild Indian ocean and neighbouring national park, perfect for friends and families to gather on a special trip down south. It spreads across three luxurious levels, with each having its own living space offering plenty of room for everyone to relax by themselves if they need to as well! You can book it here.
The Timothèe Resort, Busselton
If the past couple of years have been all about tiny cabins, we reckon over the next few years we’re gonna start seeing some of WA’s old motels be retrofitted into nostalgic-feeling resorts bringing the vibe – just like The Timothèe. The resort, originally named ‘On Vasse River Resort’, was first unveiled in 1982 by then premier of WA Sir Charles Court, and in 2022, new owners Jamie and Alice Brady took over and began a huge overhaul. And after extensive renovations they re-opened as The Timothèe Resort, designed as a homage to the retro motel era with modern luxuries.
TeySha Retreat, Yallingup
TeySha Retreat is one of the most unique stays in WA’s South West – the perfect balance of sophistication and serenity, this stunning four-bed, four-and-a-half-bath home comfortably sleeps eight people, making it the perfect backdrop for your next group getaway. You’ll be surrounded by natural beauty — think breathtaking views of the nearby dam and visits from some of Australia’s most beloved wildlife, including kangaroos. Best of all, you can soak up these scenic views from the comfort of your very own private deck, which envelops the entire property. Book it here.
Sylvies Hut, Nannup
Of all the cute and cosy cabins around Western Australia, it’s probably fair to say we’ve spent the most time at Cleves Hut near Nannup. And it’s pretty clear you guys don’t mind it either, as its becoming increasingly difficult to score a booking as we all search for a bit of rest, relaxation and respite from the big city life. Fortunately this year they gave Cleves Hut a neighbour – Sylvies Hut. This rustic farm stay features all the things we love about Cleves Hut, including a cosy queen bed, Mini Meg wood fire, full bathroom, gas stove, air condition and of course, an outdoor bath! The adults-only getaway has a two-night minimum, with prices starting at $275 per night. Head to airbnb.com to get booking!
Country Escape, Ferguson Valley
This new stay is set on a 1.33 hectare property, close enough to the Ferguson River that you’ll enjoy its seasonal flow while sitting on the expansive deck, taking in valley breezes over a bottle of vino from the region. It can accommodate up to seven guests, with a curated collection of books and games inside to keep everyone occupied inside (if they can pull themselves away from the gorgeous surrounds). The hero of the space is surely the suspended steel pool, floating above the rear garden with nothing but lush valley views to enjoy while you do some floating yourself.
