These Are The 10 Most Popular Accommodation Stays We Shared Throughout 2022
Late last year we launched a new arm of the Perth Is OK! brand – @perthisok.stays – a channel dedicated to showcasing some of the best and most unique accommodation options around our glorious state.
This year that channel evolved into regular deep dives on the site about many of those stays, and over the past 12 months the below list of 10 are the ones you kept coming back to over and over again – and yes, there will be outdoor baths:
Lake Preston Lime
One of the most viewed Stays articles this year was for the incredibly unique Lake Preston Lime Campgrounds. It’s a working property the owners have opened to the public, with a raft of weird and wonderful little attractions like a huge empty airplane, old boats and even a replica hobbit house!
Swan Valley Retreat
Stays close to home were big hits this year, and Swan Valley Retreat is perfect for a weekend getaway without going too far from the city. The units are well equipped to keep you comfy while feeling off the grid, and all have a distinct flavour to them to keep it interesting.
Karridale Cottages
One of many stays we featured this year that came complete with an outdoor bath, Karridale Cottages around 250km south of Perth may have one of the most beautiful. As an added bonus (and increasingly common amongst stays) is their commitment to being eco-friendly with solar power, rainwater tanks and environmentally-friendly products.
Wandagar Eco Tents
As what we usually think of as “down south” gets bigger and busier, one gets the feeling the PembertonWalpole/Denmark Southern Forests region of Western Australia is going to become the location of choice for people keen to really get away from it all. And one fantastic option to explore this beautiful part of the world is having Wandagar Eco Camp glamping tents are your home base, complete with rotating fireplace, lounge area, kitchenette and even a rainshower overlooking the surrounding karri forest.
Upland Farm
Nearby in Denmark we found Upland Farm, perfectly perched on a 107-acre working cattle farm with three cabins to choose from. All feature their own unique qualities and epic views, with earthy tones, warm timbers, textural, sophisticated spaces and architectural design that’ll be hard to leave. The designs are also eco-focused, sitting quietly in their surrounds and self-sufficient, with on-site water tanks, compost bins and design that takes advantage of Upland Farm’s surrounding environment.
Chittering Heights
As far as ripper day trip locations close to Perth go, Chittering Heights is a bit of a hidden gem, awaiting your discovery with excellent wineries and walking trails, along with the stunning Brockman River. And one epic way to experience the region is through a stay at Chittering Heights Tree House, located on 165 acres overlooking the valley and Brockman River below. It’s suitable as a nice romantic getaway for a couple, although can sleep up to six adults, and is filled with fantastic features.

Hidden Valley Retreat
In case we haven’t made it plainly obvious, we’re a sucker for secluded cabin escape down south, and the Hidden Valley Forest Retreat in Margaret River has five of ’em to choose from! Each has their own private spa bath, log fire, air conditioning, outdoor dining area, sun lounges and more. Set on 110 acres in the heart of the Margaret River Wine Region, it’s a 20 minute trip to the centre of town and a bit less for a host of excellent wineries and restaurants.
Stillwood Retreat
If it’s a little slice of luxury and an adults-only affair you’re looking for, Stillwood Retreat in Shadforth ticks those boxes along with many more. The secluded, bespoke retreat is nestled amongst beautiful karri trees – perfect for disconnecting from the real world, soaking in the long, two-person bath tub indoors, or of course, a sneaky outdoor clawfoot bath.
Hamptons Farm Estate
We try to keep things relatively attainable with our accommodation recommendations, but we couldn’t help but get a little (day) dreamy over the spectacular Hamptons Farm Estate near Toodyay. Built and designed by internationally-renowned interior designer Natalee Bowen, it’s a blend of classic American Hamptons on the outside, with a touch of the Bahamas inside thanks to Bowen’s interior styling. Perfect for a very boujee wedding or just a luxurious weekend away, it’s been featured on a plethora of television shows and magazines with soaring white ceilings, traditional design and eclectic styling.
Nannup Bush Retreat
Arguably the most popular stay we featured this year was the humble Nannup Bush Retreat – an eco-friendly getaway just over three hours from Perth that’s perfect for families or romantic getaways, perched on the edge of lush bushland and featuring a spring-fed swimming hole, jetty with rope swing and more. And by more we mean a couple of epic-looking outdoor, wood-fired baths to go with a wood-fired pizza oven, a library, outdoor speakers and a hammock!
