For many, tequila brings with it horrible memories of hardcore hangovers, or perhaps no memories at all!
But it doesn’t have to be like this – top quality tequila not only tastes delicious, it won’t ruin your life in the ensuing days.
We started writing this article focused on tequila, before realising all of Perth’s best Mexican joints also bring the flavours of Central America just as well, so tuck in below:
The team behind this Scarborough haunt care so much about their tequila offerings, they regularly make trips to Mexico to source only the finest (and rarest) varieties.
El grotto turns into a real party palace once the sun goes down, but is the perfect place to pull up for an afternoon fuelled with fish tacos and cool cocktails.

Back a few years ago when Perth was having a real Mexican moment, El Publico was ahead of its time and the fact it still stands strong along Beaufort St is testament to its quality.
Along with a being a fun, rowdy place to eat some delicious food, their extensive bar is backed with staff who know what they’re talking about.

Another popular and long-standing Mexican haunt along William St, La Cholita has been slinging terrific tacos, gorgeous guac and succulent sangrias since way back in 2011.
Their tequila and mezcal offerings are plentiful (like in the hundreds), so make sure you stock up on plenty tostadas and quesadillas while you imbibe.

If you’ve already eaten and are looking to party, then jump on your donkey and head to Cabalittos in the CBD – the only late night Mexican bar in Perth.
With 200+ tequilas and mezcals to go with cervezas, vino and some insane cocktails (double margarita with a Corona thrown in, anyone?), we get the feeling you’re gonna find that sneaky pole on the dancefloor irresistible soon enough.

Al Pastor Taqueria & Tequila Bar
Fear not Fremantle fans, there is tequila to be downed and Al Pastor Taqueria in the Sunshine Harvester Works has it in spades.
Opening earlier this year and from the team behind RoyAl’s, they’ve made sure to put as much love and attention into their tacos and tequila as they have done burgers, with some crazy specials on most nights as well.

Another relatively new member to the southern Mexican la familia, La Cabana is the brick-and-mortar version of the famed Eat No Evil food truck.
And while it should come as no surprise their food menu is delish, their tequila and mezcal offerings also pack a punch – just make sure you pack a sombrero for their sunny South Freo alfresco area.

Not to be outdone in the deep south, Mexican Kitchen has been bringing the party vibes to the cappuccino strip since 1975.
A little more family-friendly than the above options, Mexican Kitchen is a great way to introduce kids big and small to the tastes of Mexico, and make sure you ask for their huge tequila menu!

An East Vic Park staple since 1982, Pancho’s is the place for rawkus good times at the food table, and an equally rowdy tequila selection.
And while it can be tempting to try their tequila tasting paddle, it’s hard to go past their massive fish bowl cocktails or mega margaritas.
