There’s a lot to love about brunch. In essence it’s all of breakfast’s greatest hits, but at a far more palatable hour. Add a few grown-up libations, and brunch has the additional superpower of making day drinking socially acceptable, nay positively European. Read on for top Perth destinations for a little hair of the dog, a springboard into further boozy adventures, or just a little something buzzy with your eggs benny.

Little Lefroy’s, South Fremantle

The antidote to a night of Freo festivities is a swim in the icy waters of South Beach, followed by brekkie at Little Lefroy’s. The mimosas, made with cold pressed OJ, and served in vintage-chic cut glass coupes, will make you feel fancy even whilst battling the most debilitating of hangovers. In the immortal words of Bernard Black, “fizzy good make feel nice.” Should you be feeling creative, construct your dream dish from the extensive Design Your Own menu. If it’s too early in the day to make decisions, go for the ever-reliable (and generously plated) pancakes of the day. Bonus points for dog friendly alfresco tables, and blankets for the cooler months.

310 South Terrace, South Fremantle

The Wild Fig, Scarborough

There’s nothing quite as special as hearing those three little words. All… Day… Menu. A mere sandy-footed stroll along the Scarborough foreshore, The Wild Fig serves up Bloody Marys, Mimosas, and all the brunch crowd pleasers (think chilli eggs, eggs benny, and, naturally, smashed avo) until 3pm. Selected house cocktails are also served by the carafe, including the house Espresso Martini. The Wild Fig, is one of those venues where a coffee turns breakfast, which turns into brunch, which turns into $7 pints between 2-5pm. It’s a natural progression; roll with it.

190 The Esplanade, Scarborough

Petition, CBD

Perth’s much loved, inner-city beer hall is convivial and upbeat, even in the early hours (first orders are taken at 7am). Rest assured that the brunch menu features ample dietary options to keep all members of your brunch collective satiated. If you’re feeling a smidge indulgent, fresh Manjimup truffles can be shaved onto your dish of choice for an additional $8. Every staff member at Petition is a certified cicerone, meaning they can pair the perfect brekkie beer to, say, your Potato, Leek and Kimchi Jaffle. The coffee here is consistently on point, whether you choose to have it in a flat white… or vigorously shaken over ice with vodka and Kahlua.

State Buildings, St Georges Tce &, Barrack St, Perth

Gordon Street Garage, West Perth

With polished concrete floors and booths fashioned from up-cycled bus seats, GSG is the essence of urban cool, with the culinary chops to back it up. The drinks list is concise, but covers all bases and offers cocktails ALL DAY! GSG’s kitchen also runs all day, with breakfast running up until 11.30am and featuring such delights as three cheese corn croquettes or beetroot cured salmon omelette, while their lunch and dinner menu is available until close.

16 Gordon St, West Perth

Mister Walker, South Perth

Favour a river view with your mid morning Aperol Spritz? Who doesn’t? Putting the picturesque location and convenient early morning liquor license aside for a moment, the food offering here is innovative and mouth-wateringly good. The savoury Chilli Maple Banana Bread served with confit speck, spinach and poached eggs will make a breakfast adventurer out of the most ardent “just toast for me, thanks” devotee. Tip: make sure you book ahead for the best views of the city skyline from across the water.

Swell, Mullaloo

Continuing the theme of idyllic waterside venues, Swell boasts a location so close to the surf that you risk getting sea spray in your Bloody Maria. The friendly staff and laidback coastal vibe (think soothing blue walls and timber furniture) make Swell built for long, leisurely brunches. In the name of balance try the Gardener’s Breakfast (pumpkin & poppy seed loaf, beetroot jam, poached eggs and hollandaise), a dish so wholesome that it’s sure to counteract all that tequila spiked tomato juice. Remember to bring your beachside brunch uniform: outrageously chic shades and the most bohemian hat you can find.
