Have you ever wondered where the available profits from your Lotto ticket goes (aside from the big prizes)?

Along with putting you in the running to win a life-transforming prize, a portion of your Lotto ticket helps make great things happen around the state to the tune of $323 million last financial year via Lotterywest’s grants program.

Having explored Lotterywest grants’ impact on aged care and mental health, wildlife conservation, the arts, health and Indigenous tourism, today is all about a massive initiative that helped install more than 1000 Automated External Defibrillators (AED) units in community and sports clubs around WA!

St John's AEDs

That’s right, a Lotterywest grant of up to $1,375,568 went to St John WA for the installation of AEDs, secure lockboxes, training and project costs.

With access to most registered AEDs restricted to business hours, sporting seasons and other barriers, this project has meant that more than 1000 new AEDs have been strategically located in secure external lockboxes, that are accessible 24 hours a day.

The first 10 minutes after a cardiac arrest are vital, and statistics have shown that if an AED is applied within the first two minutes survival rates rise up as high as 70%, while they drop to 10% after 10 minutes.
